Reflecting on My Strategic Public Relations Journey

As I look back on this Strategic Public Relations course, I can confidently say it helped me build a much stronger foundation in PR strategy—especially when it comes to applying ethical judgment, crisis communication, and smart distribution tactics in real-world situations. When I first set my Mastery: PDL timeline goal, I wanted to understand how to craft and manage PR narratives that actually stick—whether that’s through writing, strategy, or crisis response. This course definitely helped me level up.

Objective: Analyze the moral, legal, and ethical responsibilities of PR professionalsAssignment: Discussion on ethics, morals, and values in PRIn this discussion, I really got to reflect on how important it is for PR professionals to hold themselves accountable—not just to their clients but to the public. I learned that transparency, honesty, and long-term credibility always outweigh short-term gains. This is something I’ll keep in mind in every campaign I work on, especially in fast-moving industries like tech and entertainment.

Objective: Evaluate the role of public relations in crisis communicationAssignment: United Airlines Crisis Case StudyBreaking down the 2017 United Airlines passenger removal scandal helped me understand how poor handling of a crisis can escalate things fast. Their lack of empathy and slow response only made matters worse. It taught me that in any crisis, how fast and human you respond can make all the difference. It’s not just about controlling the story—it’s about showing the public you care.

Objective: Create PR tactics to support brand messagingAssignment: Press release for my chosen companyWriting the press release gave me hands-on practice with tone, structure, and clarity. I realized how each word carries weight when you’re trying to tell a brand story. I’ll definitely use this skill when working on future launches or announcements to make sure the message is strong, aligned, and newsworthy.

Objective: Develop a distribution strategy to communicate to target audiencesAssignment: Distribution Plan for StockXThis assignment pushed me to think beyond the message itself and focus on how it gets out. I learned how important it is to use a mix of channels—social media, press releases, influencers, and direct pitching—to actually reach the right people. Having a great message doesn’t matter if no one sees it.

Objective: Apply strategic PR planning through a final campaignAssignment: Final Project – Sky Mavis PR PlanSky Mavis was the perfect choice for my final project. Their story—from crypto gaming leader to being the victim of one of the biggest crypto hacks ever—was a case study in rebuilding trust. I created a PR campaign that focused on transparency, community engagement, and long-term recovery. This really helped me understand how to plan strategically, especially when a brand’s reputation is on the line.

Overall, this course helped me grow both creatively and strategically. I feel more confident now in handling PR challenges, and I can’t wait to apply these skills in real-world situations—especially in industries like tech and crypto, where things move fast and trust is everything.
