Reflections on My Digital Design and Usability Course

Throughout my time in the Digital Design and Usability course, I gained valuable knowledge that I will carry with me throughout my professional career. Each assignment built upon the last, leading up to the final project: a comprehensive website improvement plan. Along the way, I learned the intricacies of analyzing websites and identifying areas for improvement.

This month’s class was both challenging and rewarding. It pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and really dive into the details of web design and usability. The course taught me to view websites from different perspectives, considering the user experience at every stage.

Week 1: Website AnalysisThe first week focused on website analysis. We examined websites from different eras, comparing how they evolved over time. This exercise helped me understand the improvements made at each stage, as well as the reasons behind those changes. It was fascinating to see how even small updates could drastically improve a site's functionality and user experience.

Week 2: Usability and FunctionalityIn week two, we explored usability and functionality. This week was particularly hands-on, as we ran tests with real users to see how easily they could navigate the site and perform tasks. Watching users interact with the site in real-time provided invaluable insights. We used this data to make adjustments and ensure the site was functioning properly and providing a seamless experience for visitors.

Week 3: Navigation and FindabilityWeek three focused on navigation and findability. These two elements go hand-in-hand, and it became clear that good navigation is crucial to a successful website. Ensuring that users can easily find what they’re looking for requires a collaborative effort from the entire web design team. Everyone must be on the same page to create a cohesive and efficient navigation system.

Week 4: Final Website Improvement PlanIn the final week, we brought everything together to create a comprehensive website improvement plan. This project was the culmination of all the skills and knowledge we’d acquired over the course, and it felt incredibly rewarding to apply everything in a practical setting.

ConclusionOverall, this was a fantastic course that taught me many valuable lessons in digital design and usability. The skills I’ve gained will undoubtedly help me in my future career in digital marketing. I’m excited to apply these concepts and continue growing in the field.
